Is this course suitable for you?

The NRASTC programme is suitable for a wide range of swimming pool designs and water depths.

Candidates must be able to:

  • Swim 50m.
  • Surface dive to the deepest part of the pool
  • Climb out of the pool without help and without using steps or ladders.

Learning Outcomes

NRASTC training provides candidates with the knowledge and practical training to:

  • Rescue a casualty in the event of being alerted to an emergency
  • Recover a casualty to poolside
  • Perform vital First Aid, including CPR and AED

Qualification

To be qualified, candidates must be aged 16 years or older at the time of the assessment, show 100% attendance and complete all assessments.

Requalification

Candidates renewing their qualification must:

  • Be considered prepared and ready for the assessment
  • Must pass the assessment before their existing NRASTC qualification expires, including re-taking any failed sections
  • Meet the criteria for and be assessed as a new candidate if their qualification expires.
Delivery Method

To provide the best support to candidates, the maximum number attending a course is limited to 12.

Course Duration

The total qualification time for NRASTC programme is 16 hours for new candidates, 8 hours for renewal candidates, excluding breaks. 

Assessment

Assessment for the NRASTC qualification will include a mixture of practical and theory-based evaluations.

Add-On Qualifications

You can add the following qualifications to your NRASTC training.

First Aid

Emergency First Aid at Work

You can include EFAW in your NRASTC qualification. The full 6-hour EFAW course and assessment must be completed to get qualified. 

First Aid

Automated External Defibrillator Programme

You can also add AED to your NRASTC qualification when you include EFAW. The full 6-hour EFAW and 1.5-hour AED training must be completed (including assessments) to get qualified.
