The ATSPRA is a supervision and rescue qualification for therapists, teachers and support staff working on the poolside or in the water during activities, such as aquatic therapy or therapeutic exercise/play.

The ATSPRA qualification is suitable for use in shallow pools (no deeper than the rescuer’s chest depth) where the rescuer will not be required to swim to perform a rescue.

Is this course suitable for you?

Candidates must be able to:

  • Wade in standing depth water swiftly and confidently
  • Regain their feet from a face-down and face-up floating position
  • Climb out of the pool unaided

Learning Outcomes

ATSPRA training provides candidates with the knowledge and practical training to:

  • Rescue a casualty in the event of being alerted to an emergency
  • Recover a casualty to poolside
  • Perform vital First Aid, including CPR and AED

ATSPRA Qualification

To be qualified, candidates must be aged 16 years or older at the time of the assessment, show 100% attendance and complete all assessments.

Delivery Method

To provide the best support to candidates, the maximum number attending a course is limited to 12.

Course Duration

The total qualification time for ATSPRA training is 14 hours, excluding breaks.

Assessment

Assessment for the ATSPRA qualification will include a mixture of practical and theory-based evaluations.

Add-On Qualifications

The following courses can be integrated with the ATSPRA qualification. In this case, the training hours extend.

First Aid

Emergency First Aid at Work

You can include EFAW to your ATSPRA qualification. The full 6-hour EFAW course and assessment must be completed to get qualified.

First Aid

Automated External Defibrillator Programme

You can also add AED to your ATSPRA qualification when you include EFAW. The full 6-hour EFAW and 1.5-hour AED training must be completed (including assessments) to get qualified.
