The RLSS award in National Pool Supervisor Qualification (NPSQ) is a two-day course, designed for employees who are responsible for the management of lifeguards and essential day to day health and safety within a leisure centre or swimming pool.

Understand the law and legal obligations of supervisors under the Health and Safety Work Act and the management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations.
Is NPSQ course suitable for you?
The NPSQ is suitable for candidates who have a responsibility for managing and supervising a swimming pool environment, such as:
- Lifeguards, wishing to progress in their career,
- Employers, wanting to upskill their employees to manage lifeguards, team members and essential health and safety,
- Newly-appointed leisure supervisors or duty managers.
Qualification
The RLSS award in National Pool Supervisor Qualification (NPSQ) is valid for three years from the date of achievement.
To get qualified in this course, candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the date of assessment, complete the course with 100% attendance and succeed in evaluations.
The National Pool Supervisor Qualification (NPSQ) was developed by the Royal Life Saving Society UK.
Requalification for NPSQ
To keep qualified, candidates must requalify before the expiry date of their existing qualification.
Delivery Method
NPSQ is delivered using workshops, hazard perception videos, scenario-based discussions and case studies. To ensure the best support is provided to candidates, the maximum number attending a course is limited to 12.
Course Duration
The total qualification time for the National Pool Supervisor Qualification is 15 hours. It is made up of 12 Guided Learning hours (excluding breaks) and 3 hours of self-study prior to the course for preparation.
Assessment
The assessment method used for NPSQ qualification is a multiple choice theory paper.
