Emergency Response Pool
The Emergency Response Pool Programme (ER-Pool) is a two-day course, designed to assist operators in meeting HSE requirements in a swimming pool environment and train staff to respond to an emergency in a swimming pool environment.

“When the pool is in use, there should be designated on-call competent staff to respond immediately to deal with any emergency. Such staff should be suitably trained, capable of reaching the poolside in time to perform a rescue and provide emergency first aid if the alarm is raised.”

ER-Pool programme is designed for small pools (no greater than 1.5m in depth), such as a health club or hotel pool. For larger pools that require direct supervision on poolside, RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification would be more suitable.
Is ER-Pool training suitable for you?
To enter ER-pool course, candidates must:
- Be aged 16 or older at the beginning of the course,
- Be able to surface dive to the deepest part of the pool,
- Be able to climb out of the pool without help and without using steps or ladders (where venue design permits).
Learning Outcomes
ER-Pool training provides candidates with the knowledge and practical training to:
- Rescue a casualty in the event of being alerted to an emergency,
- Recover a casualty to poolside,
- Perform vital First Aid, including CPR and AED.
ER-Pool Qualification
The ER-Pool qualification is valid for two years. To be qualified in ER-Pool, candidates must be aged 16 or older at the beginning of the course, show 100% attendance and complete all assessments.
Candidates will be required to complete the ER-Pool course and assessment to requalify.
Delivery Method
To provide the best support to candidates, the maximum number attending a course is limited to 12.
Course Duration
The total qualification time for ER-Pool training is 13 hours, excluding breaks.
Assessment
Assessment for the ER-Pool qualification will include a mixture of practical and theory-based evaluations.

You can include EFAW qualification in your ER-Pool training by completing the full six-hour EFAW course and assessment.
